Gergeti Trinity Church

14th-century stone sanctuary built against the sheer mountain backdrop, once guarding Georgia's sacred relics.

Heritage & Geology

Perched beneath the titanic 5,054-meter glacial crown of Mount Kazbek (Mkinvartsveri), Stepantsminda is Georgia's premier alpine sanctuary. The 14th-century Gergeti Trinity Church stands isolated atop a steep ridge, framed by permanent snowfields and deep river gorges carved by the raging Terek River.
